 The Distributed Computing Lab   The UTEP Distributed Computing Lab (DCL) project was initiated in the 2003-2004 academic year. The purpose of this work is to establish the lab which serves as a hub for educational, research and outreach activities. One important aspect of the DCL, in addition to enriching the curriculum and facilitating interdisciplinary research is the recruitment and support of underrepresented minorities, with the objective of creating a pipeline of students from high school through graduate school that are trained in the design, operation and applications of high-performance computers.
 Signal Processing and Communications The Signal Processing and Communications (SPC) affinity group at the University of Texas at El Paso is a group of Electrical and Computer Engineering students, both undergraduate and graduate, which share a technical interest in Digital Signal and Image Processing, Communications Systems, Computer Vision, etc.
 NanoMIL The Nano Materials Integration Laboratory is an exciting project whose goal is to create a research facility dedicated to the study and fabrication of semiconductor devices.

 Electronic Devices Laboratory

The Electronic Devices Laboratory (EDL) at The University of Texas at El Paso was established in the Summer of 1990 with a grant from the National Science Foundation for thin film optoelectronic device research.
 Fiber Optics Research and Educational Activities

Educational: Communication Systems Computer Simulation Laboratory (includes simulation of fiber optic systems)
Research: Fiber Optic Research Laboratory - Current Projects include:

1. Fabrication and application of tapered single-mode optical fibers.
2. Performance analysis of WDM fiber optic networks.
 PACES Pan-American Center for Earth and Environmental Sciences.
 Neuro-Fuzzy Systems Research Current projects investigate hybrid systems combining neural networks and fuzzy (theory, logic and/or controllers) in novel and synergistic ways.
 Renewable Energy  These pages were set up as a display at the Texas Renewables 95 Conference, held here in El Paso.
 The Model Institutions for Excellence Initiative (MIE)   Sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF), MIE seeks to increase the number of historically underrepresented minorities successfully completing Masters and Ph.D programs in Science, Engineering and Mathematics (SEM).
